A high-level conference for health cooperation among Belt and Road countries is underway in Beijing. Delegates and officials from 30 countries and international organizations are in attendance.
Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony. She called for the establishment of a global health network to prevent the spread of epidemics and diseases.
Liu said that promoting public health is a responsibility shouldered by every country. Over the past three decades, the life expectancy of the global population has increased by eight years. It's a milestone in the medical history of human beings. However, our world still faces severe health challenges.
The newly-elected Director-General of the World Health Organization Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus says it will work together with China to build a healthy Silk Road.

He said that the Belt and Road Initiative contains the fundamentals of basic infrastructures, access to medicines, human resources and a platform to share experience and promote best practices.
The gathering has also attracted 200 manufacturers of medical products from China and overseas. Some of the world's most cutting-edge medical technology is on display.
Improved medical technology has made it easier for companies to enter overseas markets. A number of Chinese companies are now supplying customized products and services to meet the rising demand.
China has signed health cooperation agreements with nearly one hundred Belt and Road countries and regions. These are all part of efforts to fulfill the goals set by the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
