Medical science has just gotten a new boost. The regeneration of functional alveoli, which are in damaged lungs, has been a big challenge in modern biomedicine. A major breakthrough made by researchers at a hospital affiliated with Tongji University in Shanghai can now overcome that. Doctors developed and transplanted patients' own stem cells in lungs in hopes of lung re-development. Six patients with lung disease at the hospital received the treatment. These patients have been experiencing moderate to severe diffuse pulmonary dysfunction. And now they are all in stable condition after the treatment. This world-class leading technology could make regeneration of lungs possible.
