This year marks the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up policy. In a world facing risk and uncertainty, China remains committed to opening its doors to the rest of the world. Sun Tianyuan has the story.
At the 2018 Boao Forum for Asia, Chinese President Xi Jinping reassured the world of China's determination.
XI JINPING CHINESE PRESIDENT "I stressed in the report to the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China that China adheres to the fundamental national policy of opening up and pursues development with its doors open wide. I would like to make it clear: China will never shut its door to the outside world, but will only open it even wider."
Just days after the Boao Forum, President Xi visited China's southernmost province of Hainan, and said the central government will help Hainan explore the possibility of developing into a free trade zone and building a pilot free trade port. This shows China's resolution to further open up its economy and promote globalization. At the World Economic Forum in Davos in January, Chinese Vice Premier Liu He emphasized the significance of the policy.
LIU HE, MEMBER POLITICAL BUREAU OF THE CPC CENTRAL COMMITTEE "China started its reform and opening-up policy in 1978. Now 40 years have passed, and we've witnessed that the reform and opening-up policy has created a miracle for China's economic growth."
Given the great benefits of four decades of reform and opening-up, China will further open up its economy so the international community can benefit from its large and fast-developing market.
