As expected, Chinese President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Donald Trump have struck a cooperative tone for Sino-US relations during the latter’s state visit to China. Some tangible results include signed deals worth more than 250 billion US dollars, and agreements or discussions on key bilateral and regional issues such as Sino-US trade and denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.
When they met reporters at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Thursday, President Xi said that he and President Trump had achieved a new consensus, and their meetings had been constructive and yielded fruitful results. He pointed out that the two sides should resolve problems and contradictions in economic ties through jointly boosting the overall scale of Sino-US economic cooperation in a visionary and constructive way. He also affirmed that China is willing to focus on cooperation and control disagreement with the US to benefit the people of both sides as well as the whole world.
On his part, President Trump said, "There can be no more important subject than China-US relations," stressing that his meeting with Xi Jinping was "absolutely terrific." Trump also told reporters that "In the coming months and years, I look forward to building an even stronger relationship between our two countries - China and the United States of America - and even closer friendships and relationships between the people of our two countries."

On the same day, Trump changed his main Twitter account image to show a picture of him, his wife, Melania, President Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan. He posted his appreciation in response to China's great hospitality in hosting his state visit to the country, and expressed great interest in China’s "ancient history, dynamic people and thriving culture," pledging to reinforce US ties with China.
One major consensus reached during Trump’s state visit to China is that the two leaders have come to realize that Sino-US relations are at a new historic starting point and cooperation is the only viable and correct choice for the two countries.

Xi says that China and the United States have developed into a community of deeply intertwined and shared interests, with broader interests and bigger and heavier responsibilities in safeguarding world peace and promoting common development.
Trump says that cooperation between the United States and China will benefit the two sides, and bring peace, prosperity and security to the world.
The successful Xi-Trump meeting has once again proven that mutual respect leads to better mutual understanding and that in resolving bilateral and international problems, cooperation is better than finger-pointing.
