South Korean President Moon Jae-in promised full support for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games on Monday when he met Chinese President Xi Jinping's special envoy Liu Yandong at the presidential Blue House in Seoul.
"Now the Olympic flag has been handed over to China ... I pray for the success of the Beijing Olympics, and South Korea will do its utmost to help in any way to ensure the success of the Beijing Olympics," Moon told the envoy.
He also expressed gratitude for China's support for the PyeongChang Olympic Games which ended on Sunday.
"I appreciate the fact that the vice premier came to the closing ceremony of the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games as a special envoy," Moon said. "It has been a great help to the success of our PyeongChang Olympic Games that China sent premier-level delegations to the closing ceremony, as well as the opening ceremony."
Liu, for her part, said that Han Zheng's and her participation in the PyeongChang Olympic Games as President Xi's special envoys show China's support for the games and bilateral ties.

"China and South Korea should take the opportunity of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of their strategic cooperative partnership to earnestly implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state and enhance cooperation in areas including education, technology, culture and so on," said Liu, adding that the two sides need to properly handle sensitive issues and lay a solid foundation for the future development of relations.
Speaking of the situation on the Korean Peninsula, the vice premier said the ROK's and Democratic People's Republic of Korea's (DPRK) reopening of dialogue shows the peninsula's aspiration for peace.
"China sticks to the peaceful settlement of the Korean Peninsula issue and will continue to play a positive role in it. We hope South Korea can clear obstacles for the improvement of Seoul-Pyongyang ties and make progress in peace talks," she said.
Moon said the US should lower the threshold for talks with the DPRK, while Pyongyang should in return show willingness to move towards denuclearization.
Liu also met International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach on Sunday, saying that China will fully honor its commitment to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and to host a "splendid, fantastic and extraordinary" event "with new ideas."
Bach, for his part, expressed his thanks for China's consistent support of the IOC and to South Korea for PyeongChang's successful hosting of the just-ended games.
He believes China will deliver a successful 2022 Olympics, and provide a wonderful follow-up to the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. The IOC will continue its close collaboration and cooperation with China to ensure success in 2022, he said.
