In 60 years, no part of China has made greater social and economic strides than Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. With 2018 commemorating the 60th anniversary of the area, officials have issued a progress report for Guangxi.
At a Thursday event, experts praised its accomplishments. Guangxi's middle class status was once a low-income one, with many residents suffering from inadequate food and clothing. The region's infrastructure has stepped up with transportation upgrades and the addition of a regional transportation hub. Guangxi also has transformed itself from a relatively closed border area to an open coastal region, giving it a significant position in China's neighborhood diplomacy strategy. However, experts say several issues remain, and local government is prepared to provide solutions.
LU XINSHE SECRETARY OF THE CPC GUANGXI COMMITTEE "We'll focus more on the long-term goal of steady income growth. We will promote particular industrial development to help poor people depending on local conditions. We'll use the methods of industry, tourism, and e-business comprehensively. We will also carefully cultivate professional farmers' cooperatives."
