Educated at both Harvard and Duke Universities, Palestinian-American Laila El-Haddad is a journalist, blogger, author, Muslim activist and mother.
She co-authored The Gaza Kitchen, a cookbook with recipes and stories from across the Gaza Strip.
Through food, Laila explores the culture of the Gazan people, who use cooking to keep their heritage alive.
Unable to return to, or even visit, Gaza, Laila shares her personal story and a traditional dish that represents her Palestinian heritage. Laila says her Recipe For Life is finding strength in obstacles.
