They're open 7 days a week, and handle more letters and parcels than just about anyone worldwide. China Post has become a national strategic infrastructure and social organization system, especially in the 70 years of the New China era. In recent years, they've offered more eco-friendly and high-efficiency postal services, thus facilitating economic and social development and improving people's livelihoods. CGTN's Zhu Longzhou takes a closer look.
In a country of 1.4 billion people, reliable postal service is a must. Promoting native transformation of circulation modes and consumption upgrades, China's postal service has evolved in different aspects.
According to the State Post Bureau, China's express business volume increased to 50.7 billion RMB in 2018, that's over 7 billion US dollars. It's expected to exceed 60 billion RMB this year, with an average annual growth rate of 41.5% in the last 30 years.
MA JUNSHENG DIRECTOR-GENERAL, STATE POST BUREAU "China's package delivery volume exceeds the total of developed economies such as the United States, Japan and Europe, contributing more than 50% to world growth."
Besides meeting urban demands, the national postal service has stretched to rural areas. Here in 2019, most villages in China have access to direct postal services. Express outlets now cover more than 30,000 villages and towns.
The coverage rate of express outlets in villages and towns has reached 95.22%, basically meeting the needs of 600 million rural people for express services.
Moreover, on the way toward accelerating and simplifying the postal service, green and eco-friendly changes are also now in use.
MA JUNSHENG DIRECTOR-GENERAL, STATE POST BUREAU "For packaging reduction, delivery enterprises are using electronic sheets, reducing the use of tape, reducing how much they print, and taking other measures."
Presently, comprehensive utilization of air, railway, highway and other transportation modes have taken effect. As more recyclable transfer bags, shared express boxes and other new packaging supplies are in position throughout the network, the "From fruit plant to household plates" mode of swifter, easier and greener could take effect nationwide.
