Rain has triggered mudslides in several counties of southwest China's Yunnan Province, leaving three dead, two missing, and many residents trapped over the past three days.
A mudslide occurred at 04:05 Friday in Jinping County of Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, killing three, leaving two missing and injuring one as of Friday. A total of 207 households were affected.
The local government activated an emergency response plan and sent over 100 rescuers to evacuate trapped people.
Currently, over 300 residents have been transferred to safe places and rescuers are still searching for missing people. Meanwhile, the local civil affairs department dispensed compensation of 25,000 yuan per person to the bereaved. Insurance companies also are settling claims related to the collapsed homes.
