While in New York, China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi has also spoken about China-US relations and their trade tensions. Wang stressed China's philosophy of joint development, and China's legal protection of intellectual property rights. CGTN's Wang Guan has more.
WANG GUAN NEW YORK "On the sideline of the United Nations General Assembly meetings, China's top diplomat engaged American scholars and China watchers at an event hosted by Council on Foreign Relations-a leading US think tank. Wang Yi used that opportunity to articulate China's foreign policy objectives. He also addressed some western stereotypes about China."
He said he understands that realism is the most popular school of thought in the western, the theory that says self-interested nation-states are bound for conflicts, especially between a rising power such as China and the established one like the US. He said he's not a big fan of that theory. And here's why.
WANG GUAN NEW YORK "Trade tensions between the US and China is another hot-button issue. Referring to the Trump administration's tariffs on Chinese goods, Wang Yi said China will not yield to pressure, nor will it yield to bluffing and blackmailing. He also addressed American concerns, the alleged forced technology transfer and intellectual property theft. Let's take a listen."
WANG GUAN NEW YORK "Finally, Wang Yi made it clear that China is committed to multilateralism and that China doesn't just talk the talk. He reminded the audience of China's contribution to UN peacekeeping troops, to global growth after Asian financial crisis and the Great Recession, and now to global fight against climate change.
