148 evacuated as landslide hits SW China's Yunnan Province
148 people were evacuated as landslide struck Sanhe county of Zhaotong city, southwest China's Yunnan Province early Monday, according to Chinanews.com.
The incident happened at around 2:00 a.m. local time on Monday, when 26 houses collapsed. No casualties have been reported so far.
The local government was on high alert as heavy rain has been hitting the region for days.
Traffic has been blocked due to the landslide, with a rescue operation underway.
China has been experiencing weeks of heavy summer rains that often cause flooding and landslides in rural and mountainous regions. A severe landslide struck Maoxian county in neighboring Sichuan Province on Saturday morning, with dozens of people still missing.
