Chinese courier takes his mother with Alzheimer to work for seven years

Cai Yujun, a delivery man in Chengdu, the capital of southwest China’s Sichuan Province, has carried his mother, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, to work with him for the past seven years. He took her on the backseat of his electric bicycle while making deliveries to local computer shops.

Cai even refitted his electric bicycle to ensure his mother had a comfortable seat. He widened it with a wooden board and added two pedals with another two wooden battens, using two ropes as a seat belt to secure her safety.

Yang Suxiu, Cai’s mother, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease seven years ago, and was unable to take care of herself, reported The Cover.

“My mother has dedicated her whole life for the family. It is my responsibility to take good care of her, no matter how hard it is,” Cai told The Cover.

Cai came to Chengdu with his family 20 years ago to find a living. Cai and his wife worked as couriers for a local computer shop.

“At that time, my mother had a clear mind and she usually stayed at home or went outside for a walk,” Cai told The Cover. However, Yang began to have cognitive disorder and memory problems. Gradually, she lost the capability of taking care of herself.

As a result, every year from January to April, Yang would stay with Cai and join him at work. However, this system did not come without inconveniences.

"When we made deliveries to the office building, the security guard often refused to let my mother in," Cai said. "Then I would ask if he can take care of my mother; if not, would you take the responsibility of any accident?"

Normally, under Cai's persistence, the guard would eventually let his mother enter to the building with him.

Cai would dragged the goods with one hand, while holding his mother with another hand. His story is well-known among his colleagues, who would often keep an eye on Yang during Cai's shift.
