Walt Disney put on a super-sized world premiere for Marvel's smallest superheroes, 'Ant-Man and the Wasp'. A giant Ant-Man towered over the entrance, and fans were encouraged to dress up as the titular stars for the evening. Let's take a look.
Set after the events of Captain America: Civil War, the film sees Ant-Man and the Wasp team up with Doctor Hank Pym to rescue his wife Janet from the quantum realm. This is the first Marvel movie in its 20 film history to have a female hero in the title.
PEYTON REED DIRECTOR, "ANT-MAN AND THE WASP" "People forget the viability of any superhero, male or female, was not a given thing and I think Marvel kind of changed the game. So now that Marvel has had success, they're trying to diversify the types of heroes that they bring to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's been a long time coming and I'm really happy to be the first one to have a female hero in the title of the movie."
The duo's rescue attempt doesn't go unnoticed. A mysterious character called Ghost also has a significant stake in the rescue attempt.
Although the character in the comic books has always been male, in the film the enigmatic character is played by British actress Hannah John-Kamen.
Marvel Studios has begun to feature significantly more diversity in their films. They had a global box office hit with 'Black Panther' and their next film is the female superhero 'Captain Marvel', who will be their first female superhero not to share the title of the film with a man. SW CGTN.
