China has released new documents on protecting cultural relics from the revolution. Leaders say the move will help preserve artifacts from a crucial period in the country's history. CGTN'S Zhu Longzhou has more.

Across China, protecting revolutionary cultural relics resources is vital for promoting education on patriotism. Since the 18th CPC National Congress, China has issued several notices on strengthening the protection of such relics. And thanks to the firm leadership of the State Council and support from relevant departments, great strides have been taken.

LIU YUZHU DIRECTOR, STATE ADMINISTRATION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE "The First National Census on Movable Cultural Relics just finished. It covers 33,315 registered old revolutionary sites in various provinces, cities and regions across China. Meanwhile, the protection and maintenance of revolutionary cultural relics is also accelerating in a comprehensive manner. In the past three years, the central finance department has collectively invested three billion RMB in the protection of cultural relics."

Liu Yuzhu, Director of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, points out that cultural relic protection has also improved in terms of exhibition and use. Red tourism is trending upward across China, with over 800 million tourists visiting during the National Red Tourism Year. And, 142 national revolutionary old sites are now listed as quality red tourism destinations.

Meanwhile, the relics are now preserved in much better conditions than in the past. With the system of national revolutionary museums and memorial halls taking shape, 650 museums and halls in China are part of that network; accounting for 14% of all museums in China. And museums have made sweeping improvements to exhibition and preservation facilities.

However, there are still many challenges in the protection of cultural relics and how to put in place relevant policies on them.

We should guarantee that a sharing mechanism can be built for revolutionary memorial halls, nearby schools, party and government offices, and enterprises and public institutions, and also form a good atmosphere that the whole society cares about and supports the work on the protection. "

The protection of relics requires a concerted effort from all relevant departments. Meanwhile, experts say China should build high-quality projects on relic protection to play a guiding role. Others say more special exhibitions should be carried out to match commemoration activities for major historical events and historical figures. To protect revolutionary cultural relics, experts agree that we not only need the guidance of national policies, but more importantly the resource integration of various departments to form a good atmosphere that the whole society cares about. Only then will work on protecting revolutionary cultural relics gain good support.
