The Changchun Film Festival is now taking place in northeast China's Jilin province. The biennial festival is not just about celebrating the movers and shakers in the industry -- it's also about nurturing future filmmakers. As part of the festival, an award CEREMONY recognizing young film producers and college students was held at the Northeast Normal University in Changchun. The competing works consist of one-minute, 10-minute and single-cut films -- each highlighting the concept of a micro film. Shen Li reports.

These micro films are getting a massive reception here at the Changchun Film Festival. Over 2-thousand 500 works by college students were shortlisted for the special micro film prize. They are divided into six categories such as social issues, lifestyle and popular science.

So having the opportunity to showcase their project at the Changchun Film Festival gives them a good headstart. They have a better chance to secure funds and get professional advice from industry veterans. I think filmmakers today they have more platforms -- they can do short videos on their phone and do post-production work more efficiently compared to what we used to do. They also have more channels to display their works, such as the internet, but they also need to be more creative and show an originality."

The winning films will get special screenings during the festival, and training will also be given to young creators.
