Artworks by contemporary local and foreign ceramicists are on show in downtown Tunis this week. The exhibition is a joint initiative by Tunisia, Egypt, Iraq, Turkey, France, Germany, Switzerland and Sweden. CGTN's Adnen Chaouachi takes a look at some of the creations.
The prestigious Kheireddine Palace in Tunis is hosting the country's first International Contemporary Ceramics Exhibition. Artists' designs come from far and wide.
LOBNA ANANCERAMICIST, TUNISIA "I'm using the accumulation and compression technique. I also use Chinese and Japanese influences in my work. They are a source of inspiration for me."
The artworks are grouped around several themes: from freedom and justice to tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
AROUA BEN ISMAILCERAMICIST, TUNISIA "I fell in love with ceramics at an early age. I'm a women's rights activist and I believe in the liberation of women through art. It allows us to express ourselves and our cause."
This is the work of a Turkish artist, entitled "Mental Caves". Creator Melika Dukte describes it as a spiritual journey for individuals in modern-day society.
MELIKA DUKTEARTIST, TURKEY "I work with the caves because I think, as a person, we all have problems in the daily life. We have a lot of things which affect our brain. It gives us a kind of sickness. That's why I believe we all live in our caves, in our brains. I call them mental caves."
More than 80 sculptures, murals and installations are on display here until the 15th of November.
