African leaders have gathered in Egypt on Tuesday for an emergency summit on the upheavals in Sudan and Libya. Twelve African countries are participating in talks hosted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo. They are taking place under the umbrella of the African Union. Egypt is inviting African leaders to create to discuss means of supporting stability in Sudan and Libya. 12 African countries are joining the Cairo summits, including seven African Heads of states. Several regional organizations involved in the Sudanese affairs are participating in the summit about Egypt's southern Neighbor. Among them Congo, as the current president of the International Conference of the Great Lakes, Ethiopia, as the current chair of the IGAD, the AU Troika, which consists of the former, current and future chairs of the Union-Rwanda, and South Sudan in addition to Sudan's neighboring countries."
AYA ABDELAZIZ POLITICAL RESEARCHER "Cairo is taking a leading move to work on an African solution and an African approach to the most troubling crisis in the region, especially the Battle over Tripoli and the Sudanese political transition. Egypt wasn't in dialogue with its African partners. As the Chairperson of the AU this year, Egypt wants to put a significant end to the division in Libya. Egypt is also hoping that other countries on the brink of instability would be helped before the political situation worsens, to secure the strategic conflicts in the Continent."
ADEL EL MAHROUKY CAIRO "The second meeting will be the Troika Summit along with the Chairmanship of the African Union Committee to focus on Egypt's most troubled neighbor Libya, Congo, as the chair of the African Union High-Level Committee on Libya will join the talks in addition to the chairperson of the African Commission. The summits aim to discuss the developments in Libya and Sudan. It also hopes to find African ways to contain the crisis, support the political process and combat terrorism.
