Forty-four members of the African Union signed an agreement in Rwanda's capital, Kigali, establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area Wednesday.
The AU says it is an important step to take to accelerate the continent's economic development because it gets closer to establishing a continent-wide customs union. The AU Commission Chairperson was handed the agreement of the 44 countries during a signing ceremony. The agreement will be submitted for ratification by the member nations in accordance to their domestic laws.
