China's Foreign Ministry also recently weighed in again about the latest US tariffs on steel and questioned Washington's motives. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying said everyone would lose from the tariff hike.
HUA CHUNYING CHINESE FOREIGN MINISTRY SPOKESPERSON "Washington has created many difficulties in China-US trade ties, citing 'national security', including its latest steel tarrifs against China. But I wonder if you are aware of the fact that, China only supplies less than three percent steel in the US. So I believe it's very hard for people to understand how such a low proportion can pose a national threat to the US. It's very normal that there are frictions between China and the US. But no one should blame their own problems on others - it is a foundamental strategic miscalculation. By doing so, it will only hurt both sides, and cause global disruption."
