A recent investigation reveals that five fur farms across Ostrobothnia in western Finland have overfed foxes to grow bigger pelts, thus bigger profits. /Via the Facebook page of Oikeutta eläimille
Animal rights group Oikeutta eläimille (Animal Justice) found the animals are so bloated that they can weigh up to five times their normal weight. A female fox they photographed at the farm weighed 19.4 kilograms which normally weighs about 3.5 kilograms. /Via the Facebook page of Oikeutta eläimille
The group said the foxes were fed a diet rich in fat, which results in bent feet, difficulty in moving and diarrhea. In the end, they’ll be anally electrocuted. Their fur is then sold under the Saga Furs brand and will eventually go to the shelves of stores such as Louise Vuitton, Gucci and Michael Kors. /Via the Facebook page of Oikeutta eläimille
Finland is the largest fox fur producer in Europe with over 1.8 million foxes being killed in 2014. China farms the most foxes globally. The fur trade in developed countries has been reduced under pressure by environmental and humanity groups. Some countries are banned from domestic farming, so they sell the breeding foxes to developing countries to continue the business. /Via the Facebook page of Oikeutta eläimille
According to the the General Administration of customs, in the first half of 2017, China’s fur industry exports a total of $1.35 billion. /Via the Facebook page of Oikeutta eläimille
