MOFA: Trump's new national security strategy should contribute to world peace

China hopes the new national security strategy from US President Donald Trump's administration could contribute to world peace, as well as ties between China and the US, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said during a regular press conference.
US President Donald Trump is set to unveil the national security strategy (NSS) on Monday, which is expected to focus on the projection of US economic competitiveness as well as traditional security issues.
According to Trump's National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster, the NSS will include four key tenets: Protect the homeland, promote US prosperity internationally, ensure peace through strength amid new threats, and advance the US influence abroad. Trump is also expected to label China as "competitor" in his NSS speech.
"China and the US are two major powers in the world and both permanent members of the UN Security Council," Hua said on Monday, ahead of the NSS release. "We hope the US security strategy could contribute to the world peace and stability, and promote the strategic mutual trust between the two countries."
The essence of China-US trade and economic ties is mutually beneficial and win-win, directly and indirectly supporting 2.6 million US jobs, Hua said, adding that the profits of US firms that invested in China reached 36.2 billion US dollars in 2015.
"China will continue to push forward the liberalization and facilitation of trade and investment, which will provide strong impetus to realizing the dynamic balance and mutual benefits of the trade relations," Hua added.
That was in the interests of both sides and the expectation of the international community, Hua said.
