Pablo Picasso, one of the most talented artists of all time, has been studied and worshipped in every corner of the globe. Currently, more than a hundred of his art pieces are on display at the UCCA Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing. Li Qiong takes us there.
These 103 art pieces were created when Pablo Picasso was between 12 and 40 years old. They tell the story of the creative formation and evolution of the artist. The exhibits are drawn entirely from the collection of the Picasso National Museum in Paris.
The exhibition illustrates how the young talent succeeded, not only in assimilating the lessons of ancient art and absorbing the newest expressions of his contemporaries, but especially in how he managed to develop, with the invention of Cubism.
LI QIONG BEIJING "This is considered to be the most significant exhibition of works by Pablo Picasso ever to take place in China. This selection of works realized in the first three decades of Picasso's career traces his development from childhood to middle age. His talent started to shine when he was very young."
Picasso said he never made any childhood drawings, even when he was very little. The 30 years under consideration here were a period of artistic discovery for the young Picasso, whose style underwent numerous changes.
The exhibition hall is divided into five separate boxes for different stages of his career. But instead of sorting his works into a succession of strictly defined and closed-off periods, the exhibition hall designer tries to reaffirm the co-existence of several seemingly contradictory languages in his creative process.
The exhibition of "Picasso: Birth of a Genius" runs through September 1st at the UCCA Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing. LQ, CGTN.
