Chinese President Xi Jinping praised on Thursday the efforts made by former British Prime Minister David Cameron to advance relations between the two countries.
Xi said the "golden era" in bilateral relations has brought tangible benefits for the people of both countries, and that China was willing to strengthen the communication and cooperation channels with the United Kingdom. In doing so, the "golden era" can yield "golden results," Xi added.
Cameron recalled Xi's state visit to the UK in 2015 saying it was a memorable event. He also noted that the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative will create more opportunities for the two countries.
"I share full confidence in the relationship between the United Kingdom and China, and hope to play an active role in promoting collaboration and understanding between the two countries," Cameron said.
