A Chinese expert has said that the G2 format of China and the United States could be adopted and used in some situations if the US does not want to withdraw from its position of world leadership.
Speaking on CGTN’s Dialogue, Professor Daojiong Zha from Peking University said, the “G2 format of China and the United States deciding what a third party ought to be doing that will continue to be controversial, and the many quarters of the world will be resisted.”
He emphasized that the G2 position performs well during certain instances of multilateral cooperation.
“For both the Chinese and the American governments to do is doing the ground work and preparing the other members to accept the Chinese and American initiatives,” he said.
Zha disagreed with some allegations that the US is shirking its global leadership role as China's influence continued to rise around the world.
He said the two countries expressed differences in many cases such as on issues of trade arrangement and military operations.
China’s trade and investment plays a significant role on the African continent.
Current affairs commentator, Victor Gao, said China treats every country as an equal in Africa and focuses on economic development with a particular emphasis on infrastructure and connectivity.
“I think China needs to share not only its economic development success stories but also how to maintain stability and how to keep peace,” he said.
He said restrictions the Chinese government has placed on Chinese companies in Africa were aimed at preventing illegal activities and would not have a major impact on finance.
