Demonstrations in Gaza: Palestinians protest against US sanctions

For a third straight day, thousands of Palestinians have participated in mass demonstrations in the Gaza Strip. They're protesting a Bahrain economic conference and a U.S.-backed plan for Middle East peace. Here's more from our correspondent in Gaza, Noor Harazeen.
Thousands of protesters representing many Palestinian factions turned out in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday to denounce the participation of Egypt and Jordan in an economic workshop in Bahrain. Palestinians are protesting a U.S.-backed economic initiative, dubbed "Deal of the Century" to create jobs, infrastructure projects and reduce unemployment in the Palestinian territories. Demonstrators say an economic component must include a political settlement.
TALAL ABU ZARIFA LEADER OF DEMOCRATIC FRONT "The National and popular Palestinian action will continue to reject the Deal of the Century, the Bahrain workshop and its results. I do not imagine that American intervention can bring any solutions to the conflict. The American intervention means that we will lose our national rights."
A joint committee of Palestinian factions organized the protest in front of the United Nations headquarters in Gaza City. Demonstrators raised Palestinian flags and shouted anti-Israel and freedom slogans.
REHAB SHANAAN PROTESTER "We will not kneel, not sell our cause, and we do not want money. We have made many sacrifices, thousands of martyrs, wounded people, and Palestinian prisoners, and we will continue to make sacrifices until our whole country is liberated."
At the same time, the National Committee for Breaking the Siege on Gaza held a news conference in a solidarity tent that was set up around 400 meters away from the Israel-Gaza border.
KHALED AL-BATSH LEADER OF ISLAMIC JIHAD "Israel will regret, because they have opened the gates of their ultimate goal of occupying Arab land in different forms. But this time, they faced a unified Palestinian national position, from the leadership, people and all Palestinian factions to reject this deal."
For Palestinians, the protests are an opportunity to draw international attention, as they denounce the Bahrain economic conference and efforts to normalize relations with Israel. Noor Harazeen, CGTN, GAZA.
