The Chinese Armed Police’s transfer of command will not change its duties and basic functions, said National Defense Ministry spokesperson Ren Guoqiang on Thursday.
At a press conference, Ren said the armed police will not be listed into the People's Liberation Army.
Ren also said China will not change its defensive national defense strategy.
The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee said on Wednesday that the Chinese Armed Police will be under the command of the CPC Central Committee and Central Military Commission (CMC) starting January 1, 2018.
