Airshow China 2018 opens to the public with much fanfare. Day one saw more than 80,000 people pack the venue in Zhuhai. More are expected over the weekend. CGTN's Sun Ye shows us what's in store.
The heat, the sun, the glare. But nothing stopping spectators from looking up in the air.
Airshow China 2018 features up to four hours a day of aerobatic stunts and thrilling performances.
LIANG YINGHONG "I've been watching them since nine in the morning. I just can't get enough of the show! I'll watch them all afternoon too. They rock!"
SUN YE ZHUHAI "Of course the acrobatic show is a must see. But make sure you take time to see the other celebrity aircrafts."
This year's darling, the J10B fighter jet, is making its debut. It can stop in mid-air, also stopping audiences in their track.
And the "IT" unmanned aerial vehicle, also invisible to radar, is part of the show for the first time.
MA HONGZHONG, RESEARCHER UAV TECHNOLOGY INST OF CASIC "We know TIANYING will be the star here. And not just because of its look. Many have been waiting for the latest in invisible unmanned drone technology, and now it's here for real."
JIANG ZONGWU "I came all the way from Chongqing to see the best and latest in the national defense sector. And I am impressed."
Day one at any big event usually means long lines. It's a one-hour wait for 5 minutes in the VR cockpit.
Hundreds wait to embark on the wide-body jetliner CR929.
One has to jostle others to get close to the life-size space station.
Yet many who spent the whole day looking at the sky don't feel like they missed anything.
