After launching in London recently, Chinese bike-sharing company ofo is fully expanding into Europe. It announced on Friday, World Car Free Day, that its bikes would be seen in four more countries – the Czech Republic, Italy, Russia and the Netherlands – by early 2018.
“We are very glad to make this overseas expansion announcement on this particular day, as ofo is committed to bringing the green and sustainable way of transportation to every city in the world by offering a convenient and low-carbon solution for short trips. Hopefully, people around the world will contribute to improving the global environment by using ofo bikes,” said Dai Wei, founder and CEO of ofo.
Prague and Milan will be the first cities with the ofo service. A 30-minute ride will cost 0.5 euro in these two cities. The three other cities will be Moscow, Rotterdam and Groningen.
In Moscow, ofo will partner with local company Velobike.
The company also placed 1,000 ofo bikes on the Thai tourist resort island of Phuket on Friday, after entering Thailand in July.
So far, ofo has announced services in 13 countries around the world, having completed more than half of its global market goal of 20 countries and 200 cities by the end of this year.
