Senior Iranian officials reacted to a new bill passed by the US House of Representatives that slaps Russia, Iran and the DPRK with sanctions. During a weekly cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says Tehran would definitely react to the bill if it becomes a law.
"We should always strengthen our defensive means. We will reinforce all our defensive weapons without paying attention to what others say,” Rouhani said.
US Congress passed the bill on Tuesday. It requires a vote by the Senate and endorsement by President Donald Trump to be ratified.
In separate remarks on Wednesday, senior Iranian nuclear negotiator Abbas Araghchi says the sanctions could affect the 2015 landmark nuclear deal with world powers. The bill imposes mandatory penalties on people involved in Iran's ballistic missile program and anyone who does business with them.
