News regarding the warming ties between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Republic of Korea (ROK) keeps coming out of the winter Olympics.

DPRK leader Kim Jong-un's sister, Kim Yo Jong, is to attend Friday's Olympics opening ceremony, making her the first immediate Kim family member to cross the border.

Will the seemingly united efforts make a real difference?

CGTN's host Tian Wei interviewed Enna Park, Deputy Chief of ROK Foreign Ministry's Task Force for PyeongChang Olympics. Park said she couldn’t even begin to explain how significant the gesture is.

"It's a true manifestation of peace and world harmony. It should serve as a turning point in the pursuit of our long aspiration for peace and prosperity and stability on the Korean Peninsula. North Korea's (DPRK) participation in the Olympics may not in itself be enough to ensure our aspiration become a reality, however it is a very important initial first step towards a breakthrough to ease the tensions in the region."

Besides Kim's sister, Kim Yong Nam, the DPRK’s top lawmaker, will be leading the delegation. He will be the highest-level official from the DPRK to visit ROK in four years.

"It's good news North Korea (DPRK) is sending a high level delegation to South Korea (ROK) led by Kim Yong Nam, who is head of state in North Korea (DPRK). Kim is the highest North official to visit the South so far, we interpret this as North Korea (DPRK) shows sincere efforts to improve relations."
