Over to Mixed Martial Arts, where arguably the sport's biggest star is in a fight with the law. Conor McGregor, who has not been in the octagon for almost two years, was involved in a melee backstage at a press conference, as the UFC was promoting an event this weekend in New York. The Irishman who is not on the card inexplicably went ballistic in a loading dock at the Barclays Arena in Brooklyn, throwing chairs among other things at a bus -- his wild behaviour leading to the injury of two fighters, who have now been pulled from the card. His actions did not go unnoticed, as he has been charged with assault and criminal mischief.
The 29-year-old turned himself in, and appeared before a New York court, and was released on a 50-thousand dollar bond. Co-defendant Cian McCawley in the grey hoodie was given a 25-thousand dollar bond. They are due back in court June 14th. McGregor did not speak after leaving the courthouse. The worst case scenario for the fighter could be a seven-year jail term. The mixed martial artist has not fought since a boxing match in August in Las Vegas, against ex-welterweight champion boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. McGregor reportedly made 100-million dollars for that fight.
