Xi calls for down-to-earth efforts for future development

President Xi Jinping on Sunday called on Chinese to approach work with a firm footing so as to translate the blueprint charted at the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) into reality.
He made the remarks in his 2018 New Year address.
“A tall tower needs a solid foundation,” Xi said. "To translate the blueprint into reality, we have to avoid the distractions of unsubstantial ideas and superficial fame, take one step at a time, and approach our work with a firm footing."
In a report to the 19th CPC National Congress in 2017, the Party announced a two-stage development plan for the period from 2020 to the middle of the 21st century, to develop China into a “great modern socialist country.”
