Toyota's latest robot T-HR3 is one of the hundreds of robots on show at the International Robot Exhibition which opened in Tokyo on Nov. 29. Not only is it pretty good at Tai Chi, it can mirror complex human movements in real time. The humanoid robot is 1.5 meters tall, weighs 50 kg and is made up of 29 body parts.
Elsewhere at the exhibition, the Hana-chan robot dog has been making visitors giggle with its super sensitive nose designed to sniff out foot odor. If the odor hits an unacceptable level, the robot freezes and keels over as if in shock. It aims to help people avoid embarrassment in a country where shoes are not worn inside the home.
The wheelchair which can detect the users' thoughts via a headset has also been developed, and it can be driven without any physical effort required from the user. This system could be combined with conventional wheelchairs to create mobility for the elderly or disabled that is more intuitive and customized.
More than 2,000 companies and organizations are taking part in the 22nd International Robot Exhibition. Held every two years, it's the world's largest robot exhibition showcasing a variety of state of art robots from service and industrial to toys.
