The box office sales hit a record high for the week-long Spring Festival holiday. How high?
More than 5.72 billion yuan, about 901 million U-S dollars. That represents a 67 percent growth over last year. According to the official figures, the first day of Spring Festival broke the global single-day record in a single market. Earnings totaled about 1.26 billion yuan. "Detective Chinatown 2" was at Number One at the end of the holiday, earning 1.89 billion yuan. "Monster Hunt 2" was leading at the beginning. But it dropped to second place at the end, taking over 1.7 billion yuan. Military blockbuster "Operation Red Sea" followed. The last two films were also box office hits overseas.
