The three-week-old panda cub, whose twin died shortly after the first-ever birth of the rare animal in France, is in good health and feeding from its mother. Huang Huang, a female giant panda on loan to the Beauval Zoo from China, gave birth to the twins on August 4, but its firstborn was too weak to survive. Zookeepers were on alert to make sure that the surviving cub makes it through the crucial first weeks of its life. A team of Chinese specialists had traveled to France to share their expertise, taking with them colostrum from panda mothers in China as the milk contains substances that help boost the newborn’s immune system.
