It's a celebration of 60 years in the making. 2018 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. CGTN's Wang Mengzhen takes us to the regional capital of Nanning, and shows us how locals and visitors alike are commemmorating the occasion.

Grassroots-level representatives from both the Zhuang and Han ethnic groups also shared their stories at the event. As Guangxi maintains its unique role in the Belt and Road Initiative and CHINA-ASEAN COOPERATION, it now seeks new growth momentum in areas like border trading and building infrastructure. For decades, residents have enjoyed a front row seat, watching their homeland's tremendous changes unfold.

"After graduation, I chose to return to Guangxi, since new graduates find lots of job opportunities nowadays. The working environment is much better now."

"In the last two years, Nanning has opened its subway line 1 and 2. Also, it has set up a new station for high-speed rail trains. Public transportation is much more convenient."

"What's most impressive to me is the improvement in Guangxi's ecological environment and people's awareness in environment protection."

More than 20 thousand viewers attended the celebration, which will include several performances. They include cheerful dances, songs and drumbeats from diverse ethnic groups living in the region, as Guangxi is home to the largest number of ethnic minorities nationwide.
