China slams Abe's Yasukuni Shrine offering

China has expressed opposition toward Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's act of sending a ritual offering to the Yasukuni Shrine, the notorious site honoring a number of convicted Japanese war criminals among other WWII dead.
Abe made the offering on Tuesday, the 72nd anniversary of Japan's surrender in WWII. The shrine is regarded as a symbol of past Japanese militarism.
Hua Chunying, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a regular press conference that Japan must face up to and reflect on its history of invasion, and draw a line under its militarism.
