The United Arab Emirates (UAE) denied on Sunday claims that Yemen’s Houthi group had fired a cruise missile targeting a nuclear power plant under construction in Abu Dhabi.
The Iranian-backed group, whose members are fighting forces of the internationally-backed government forces, had made the claim earlier in the day, without providing any evidence.
There were no reports from other sources confirming that missiles had reached UAE.
The Gulf country is a part of a Saudi-led coalition that has launched a military campaign against the Houthis since 2015.
State news agency WAM quoted the UAE's emergency and crisis management department as saying that the country has a missile defense system that could deal with any such threats.
