Now to Taiwan, where memorial services are being held to commemorate victims of the earthquake that hit Hualien County.
Monday marks the "touqi", or the "first seventh day" following the deaths. According to Chinese tradition, loved ones should pay their respects to the dead on this day. The magnitude-6.5 quake jolted Hualien last Tuesday night, killing 17 people. The fatalities included nine people from the Chinese mainland, five from Taiwan, two Canadians and one Filipino. 285 people were also injured in the quake.
