We tee off with golf and the opening major of the men's season -- the Masters. China's Li Haotong making his debut at the tournament. The 22-year-old has seen a steady rise in his play over the last year. He played his first major in 2017 -- the U-S Open. And followed that up with a third place finish at the British Open. And his stunning play at the Dubai Desert Classic in January, beating 4-time major winner Rory McIlroy put him into the top-50, becoming the first Chinese male to get to that high. So how would he fare in his opening round at Augusta National?
Quite well, this is his approach on 16 as he is able to clear the water and get on the green. The youngster signing for a 3-under 64 and is tied for fourth.
Defending champion Sergio Garcia not having a fun time, and has issues with his approach on 15 -- it lands on the green, but rolls into the water. In fact he would shoot four into the water hazard, and equals the worst ever score for a hole -- a 13.
This is Tiger Woods on his closing hole -- and this more or less sums up his day -- close but not close enough. El Tigre just short of the hole, and ends up firing a 1-over 73.
Henrik Stenson finds himself in the mix, he had the clubhouse lead at one-point but is in a pack at minus-3.
As is Rory McIlroy, the Northern Irishman needing to win this tournament to complete the grand slam and is amongst the leaders.
But the man to catch is Jordan Spieth, the 2015 winner of the event, catching fire on the back nine, making five straight birdies to take the lead.
And even when he does get in trouble -- like this on 18 -- incredible approach helps him get close to the cup.
He putts out for a bogey -- dropping a stroke, and sits at 6-under after a 66 - good enough for a two shot lead, but he knows there's lots of golf to play.
