Dalian Yifang reportedly spent big in the offseason but you wouldn't have thought so as the newly promoted Chinese Super League (CSL) side suffered an 8-0 humiliation at the hands of host Shanghai SIPG.
Dalian shelled out a reported 50 million pounds on West Ham defender Jose Fonte and Atletico Madrid midfielders Yannick Carrasco and Nicolas Gaitan in the recent transfer window.
It only took former Chelsea midfielder Oscar 28 seconds to get his first goal of the campaign and the fastest of the new season. In the 23rd minute, Dalian goalkeeper Zhang Chong palmed Hulk's pass out of the area, but only as far as Oscar who slammed in the rebound for his second of the game. In the 34th, Fonte brought down Hulk in the area and the big Brazilian made it 3-0 from the penalty spot.
The bombardment continued in the second half, as Oscar sent a beautiful pass for Wu Lei to tap home for SIPG's fourth of the night. Five minutes later, Oscar connected with Wu again who raced in to make it 5-0.

On the hour mark, Oscar completed his hat-trick with a fine shot from the top of the box, the third player to tally a treble in the first round after Alan Carvalho and Eran Zahavi. In the 82nd minute, Chen Binbin delivered a cross that was met by a diving Wu for 7-0 for his own hat-trick, the first by a Chinese player for the season.
Two minutes later, Lu Wenjun's goal completed the 8-0 rout.
Dalian was humiliated despite Carrasco and Gaitan playing the full 90 minutes and will have to improve to avoid a similar result against seven-time champions Guangzhou Evergrande in its next game.
Elsewhere, Alan Kardec scored from the penalty spot as Chongqing handed the other promoted side, Beijing Renhe, an opening 1-0 loss, while Manuel Pellegrini had Zhang Chengdong to thank for an equalizer four minutes from time as Hebei Fortune shared the points with Tianjin Teda.
