China and South Korea must maintain good-neighborly relations, stressed Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli during the first day of South Korean President Moon Jae-in’s state visit to China on Wednesday.
Though China-South Korean relations have recently experienced some difficulties, China hopes that the visit will be an opportunity to reestablish friendship and mutual trust, and pave the road for extensive cooperation in all areas, said Zhang.
This is a crucial moment in China-South Korean relations, Zhang emphasized during a brief meeting with the South Korean president ahead of a trade forum aimed at strengthening economic and trade ties between the two nations.
South Korea and China have a high quality partnership with great advantages to be reaped through cooperation, stated Zhang.
Speaking on the memorial ceremony for the Nanjing Massacre victims, Moon Jae-in said that South Korea deeply relates with China’s pain and suffering during the second world war, and that economic and trade relations between the two neighbors have progressed greatly in the 25 years since diplomatic relations were established.
Moon is expected to meet with President Xi Jinping on Thursday, to further discuss top-level designs and broader plans going forward.
Zhang reiterated that the two nations are geographically close and share cultural similarities. China has always attached great importance to China-South Korean relations. Good ties would be in line with the greater historical trend, and would also be the common wish of the peoples of both nations.
