The divided European Union faces many uncertainties. Despite the upcoming election in Germany, transatlantic relations with the US and EU-Turkey relations are also on a list of the EU’s top concerns. Werner Weidenfeld, Director of Center for Applied Policy Research, Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich, said during an interview by Dialogue with Yang Rui.
Weidenfeld said three issues shall be concerned on the upcoming Brexit negotiation.
First is the policy for people living in the UK and their counterparts living on the continent respectively. Second is how to organize inter-migration between two sides. Third is the relation model build up between the UK and the EU common market in the future.
Weidenfeld commented on transatlantic relations that the Europe is no longer just sitting and saying the US will do it  for us if some dangerous happens. The Europe will do it on its own. He reminded that President Bush’s refusal to take over responsibilities in Southeast Europe and ask the Europe to do on its own has shocked the Europe in the early 1990s. Since then, the Europe started some cautious security steps.
