Delivery services have become increasingly popular in China and alternatives are now being explored, including the use of a robot. CGTN's Chuck Tinte has the story.
It's called the "little yellow horse". A robot, the size of a small suitcase. And it's been gaining attention in Beijing. It's an autonomous delivery robot, and it ferries daily essentials like drinks, fruit and snacks from local stores to customers. All without cash transactions or human interaction.
FU SIDA OPERATIONS DIRECTOR, SUNING HOLDINGS GROUP "It is equipped with a GPS system, cameras and radar. Once the order is made, the robot will set off, and it will take no more than 15 minutes to get to its destination. It can be a broad solution for the final kilometer of delivery, which will save some time."
Nowadays, there are various delivery options, such as couriers and self-service lockers. And alternatives need to be explored to keep up with the growing demand of deliveries.
LIU ZHIYONG CEO, ZHEN ROBOTICS "There are a large amount of packages delivered every day in China, and that is estimated to greatly increase in the future. There will not be enough people to make deliveries then. However, these robots aim to fill the gap."
Select what you want delivered, key in your address, and pay over your phone. In only a few steps, this "little yellow horse" will deliver your order. But due to purchasing, maintenance, and operating costs, it might take a while before these robots take off. Chuck Tinte, CGTN.
