UK to pay 40 billion euros for divorce with EU

The UK will pay 40 billion euros to the European Union (EU) to settle its accounts for leaving the bloc, Sunday Telegraph newspaper reported on Sunday based on unnamed government sources.
This is the first time the country has revealed a concrete amount for its Brexit bill. The figure is much less than the 100 billion euros previously discussed in Brussels.
Sunday Telegraph said the British government will only pay the bill if the EU agrees to negotiate a settlement as part of a deal on future relations.
The British government ministry in charge of EU negotiations declined to comment on the report. London has previously said it will pay any outstanding liabilities, but has not given a definite figure.
