China's Political Season: Members arriving in Beijing for 13th CPPCC National Committee
[]
Members of China's political advisory body are arriving in Beijing for one of the country's most important political gatherings.
The "Two Sessions" refers to the 13th National People's Congress, or NPC and the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, or CPPCC. The CPPCC meeting will kick off on Saturday and the NPC on Monday. Members will discuss major reforms for the country. This year 2,980 deputies will attend the 13th National People's Congress. They are drawn from various sectors of society. 45 of the representatives are migrant workers, compared with just three ten years ago. Meanwhile, the 13th CPPCC will see a reshuffle this year. More than half of the 2,158 CPPCC members are newly elected. It means a more representative distribution and an improved structure.
