Terracotta Warrior Incident: City of Philadelphia apologizes for damage to ancient relic
[]
Over in the US, the Philadelphia City Council has apologized over the stealing of a finger from a Terracotta Warrior. The controversy began in January when a 24-year-old allegedly snuck into a museum after a party and stole a finger off one of the warriors on display.
The suspect was later released on bail, but may face prison time of up to thirty years. The statue was on loan by the Shaanxi Cultural Heritage Promotion Center. The official apology was sent to the Chinese Consulate General in New York. The consulate accepted the letter and is forwarding it to the Shaanxi heritage center.
