Following a one month quarantine, giant panda Nuan Nuan made her public debut on Thursday in her new habitat in Dujiangyan, southwest China’s Sichuan Province, after she returned from Malaysia on Nov. 15.
Nuan Nuan was born on August 18, 2015, in the National Zoo of Malaysia. She is the first child of Fu Wa and Feng Yi – who were leased to the southeastern Asian country in 2013 to mark 40 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Her appearance attracted a number of fans. The breeders from her birthplace also sent their wishes via video. On this special day, the two-year-old panda was granted an ID card – the first ever for a giant panda.
Considered to be a friendship ambassador, more and more giant pandas are leased to different countries for scientific research purpose. According to related agreements, pandas born overseas have to be sent back to China when they are around two years old.

So far, China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda has established partnerships with zoos from 12 countries, including the US, the UK, Australia, Japan and Malaysia, among other countries. Remarkable achievements have been made in the past few years thanks to this kind of cooperation, with a growing number of pandas being bred.
As a world natural heritage site, Dujiangyan is an important habitat for giant panda.
