Chinese President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Donald Trump have held a phone call, where they discussed the DPRK's offer to hold talks with Washington on Pyongyang's nuclear program. President Xi says China was firmly committed to a denuclearized Korean Peninsula, and to resolving the issue through dialogue and negotiation. He said he hoped the talks could begin as soon as possible, and that they would produce a favorable outcome. Trump, meanwhile, said the US appreciated China's role in the matter, adding that it wanted to maintain close contact with Beijing.
