The spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has spread to the UK, as Chinese ambassador to the UK Liu Xiaoming speaks in the UK Parliament to get people to know why this Congress is significant to both China and the world.
"Socialism with Chinese characteristics is entering into a new era. This is the core message of the Congress," said ambassador Liu, who attended the Congress that concluded last month in Beijing. He shared his thoughts and observations with the British peers and members of parliament. "Recognizing this change is highly significant. This will determine what policies and overall strategies China will adopt."

His speech was welcomed by over 70 members of parliament, government officials, academics and business people in the UK. Many of them are keen to understand how China's foreign policy will unfold in the new era.
“The Congress lays out China's two major diplomatic visions. One is to build a new type of international relations. The other is to build a community of shared future for mankind,” said ambassador Liu Xiaoming. “China envisions a new type of international relationship that features mutual respect, fairness and justice, and win-win cooperation. These three elements are inter-connected and mutually-reinforcing. Together they give us a complete picture of the new type of international relations."
Earlier, ambassador Liu Xiaoming also gave a live interview on ITV's Peston on Sunday, in which he shared his views on the 19th CPC National Congress.

“We realize there is unbalanced and inadequate development in China. A lot has to be done to address the ever-growing needs of the people for a better life. That is exactly what the Party Congress is trying to address,” said ambassador Liu,

In the past 30 years, China has elevated 700 million people out of poverty. The target for the Party and the government is to get the remaining 40 million people out of poverty by the year 2020. Ambassador Liu said “that means we will wipe out poverty, according to the poverty line in China, when we successfully build a moderately prosperous society in China.”
In the past weeks, ambassador Liu Xiaoming published signed articles on the spirit of the CPC Congress on several UK mainstream newspapers in the UK, including The Daily Telegraph and The Evening Standard.

Ambassador Liu hopes the outcomes and far-reaching impacts of the Congress can be understood in the UK, "as this Congress heralds a new era for the socialism with Chinese characteristics and a new journey for China's future development. It also creates new dynamism and opportunities for China's relations with the world."
"It is time for China and Britain to seize the precious opportunities and work together to deliver more 'golden fruits' in the China-UK 'Golden Era' for the good of the people of our two countries and beyond," said Ambassador Liu.
